Speedy the Velociraptor’s Life!

Day One;
70.02 Million years ago, in what will be called The Gobi Desert of Mongolia, I was an egg. I
didn’t know that I was an egg. I was only aware for a few weeks, so I didn’t know any better.
Finally, I started to feel like I was growing up to be too big for the interior of the egg all around
me. I decided that it was all too much for me to handle, so I realized that I had to escape the
cramped boundary of the egg. I started to push against the walls of the egg. I kept pushing until
the walls of the egg gave way, and I fell flat on my face in what seemed to be a much bigger
space than what I was used to from inside the egg. The space almost seemed infinite, and I
could move and breathe much easier in this space. I sighed heavily,”Finally, I am out of the
egg!” I got up on my feet and looked around. My surroundings were made out of sand as far as
the eye could see. I was in the middle of a desolate desert. I felt a sticky, wet liquid draped all
over my body. This liquid still was on me from when I was still an egg, but now that I’m out of the
egg, it’s time to get the wet, sticky liquid off! I shook my whole body, shaking all the liquid off my
body and onto the sand. I felt so relieved that the liquid was now off! I squawked happily! Then, I
stared around at my body and saw that I had dark blue feathers covering my entire body and I
could tell that I had orange feathers running down my head and neck and around my tail like a
fan, a tail fan. My arms had orange and yellow feathered wings. I also had a blue face! I
exclaimed, “Squawk, I am very colorful!” I had three claws on each of my winged arms. I
noticed that my hands faced each other. I stared at my feet and saw that I had three claws on
each foot. The biggest claws on each foot were curved and razor-sharp at the tip. My mouth
was filled with widely-spaced dagger teeth that curved backwards into my throat. My snout was
long, but narrow. All of these put together, would make me a very skillful predator. My eyes
were the color and shape of a solar eclipse; very circular and orange-yellow. I stood out against
the backdrop of the barren land filled with sand. I stared at the landscape for a long time, when I
finally looked up and saw another dinosaur with feathers like me, but the dinosaur had brown
feathers so she could blend into the desert. I almost didn’t notice her because she blended into
the environment, unlike me. I realized that the dinosaur I was looking at was my moma! Mom
walked over to me and dropped a slab of meat at my feet. The smell of the meat made my
mouth water and somewhere deep down, I felt the urge to attack and devour the piece of meat.
And so a second later, without even remembering that I was doing it, I had already eaten the
meat that my mom had given to me. I licked my lips. “Yum!” The meat had been so great, it was
almost addicting to me. I stared up at my mom, wagging a little, and pleading for more. Mom
nuzzled me and shook her head. “Later.” she said. I took a few steps back and nodded at my
mom. I replied,”Ok, later is fine by me!” Then, I curled up in the nest with my mom sitting on top
of me to keep me warm, and with that, I fell asleep under the starry night sky.

Day Two;
The next day, I woke up and looked around for my mom. I didn’t see her. I was all alone, so I
just sat there, looking at the sand in the distance for a while, I felt the warm sun beaming down
on me. The rays were so cozy and relaxing that I probably fell asleep a few times while waiting
for mom. Suddenly, I took a sniff. I caught a scent on the wind. It was my mom’s scent. I knew
that it was her because I had spent all night trying to memorize her scent and it smelled like all
that hard work paid off. I had sniffed out mom! Mom came back with food for me to eat. I could
sense, by its smell, that it was the same kind of meat as yesterday. Mom dropped the meat in
front of me, just like she did the day before. I ate it hungrily, pleading for more after I had
finished. Mom told me that I could eat meat later, until I learned to hunt for myself. I couldn’t wait
to learn how to hunt for myself. That night, I fell asleep like I had done the night before; under
the stars with mom sitting on top of me to keep me warm.

Day Three;
The next day, I woke up and perpetually did the same things that I had done before. I was
getting tired of it all, when my mom came to me and gave me yet another piece of meat, while I
was eating, my mom stared over at me as if trying to decide something for me. “I think I’ll name
you Speedy.” she said. I stopped eating to look at her. I asked her if what she said was my
name. She replied,”Yes!” I wagged! Then, I continued eating the food that mom gave to me. I
wagged, enjoying it! That night, I stared at the stars in curiosity, wondering what my purpose
was in life. Little did I know that I would soon know what my purpose was in a catastrophe that
would change my life forever!

Year Five;
Years passed, and I went from the size of a small duck to the size of a full-grown turkey. Week
after week, I waited for my mom to take me out hunting with her. I was so excited, I could barely
wait! Finally, my mom came up to me one day and said, “It’s time.” I looked up at her, wagging
hopefully. Was she going to take me out hunting? Mom nodded, confirming my suspicions. I was
so excited to be finally going on the hunt with my mom. She told me to follow her and I did. We
crouched down as we crept forward stealthily, our eyes forward and our senses ajar. We hid
behind a large rock and peeked out from around it. Mom turned to me and told me to watch her
and learn from her. Then she crept towards a creature in the distance. It was hard to see from
this angle, but I could make out that it was a large dinosaur that seemed to be drinking water at
a small watering hole far away. The dinosaur stood on four, thick legs with four toes on each
foot. I sniffed, the creature had a weird aroma. I had smelled nothing like it before. I shook my
feathered head anxiously, ruffling my orange and yellow feathered crest. Even though I was
many miles away, I could still hear the animal drinking water as clear as day. I watched very
intently as Mom slowly and stealthily walked forward. Suddenly, she took off running across the
desert. She stirred up a dust cloud behind her as she ran. That’s how fast Mom was running. I
watched her in awe as she ran towards the dinosaur in the distance. She got closer and closer
until she leaped on top of the dinosaur’s back, clawing and biting with much ferocity. She
seemed to be keeping her winged arms laid over the back of the beast to keep her balance still
as she worked. She also flapped her wings to keep herself still, so as to not fall off of the
dinosaur. The creature bucked and tried to escape, but my mom held on, clawing and biting with
all her might. She flapped harder. She seemed to be stabbing with her toe claws more than
clawing the beast’s skin open. She was biting more than clawing, but it all looked the same to
me. Finally, she leaped off of the dinosaur’s back and ran back to me. She nodded at me and
told me that it was now my turn to hunt. Mom had weakened the beast so that it would be easier
to hunt. The dinosaur was limping around with scratches all over. I almost felt sorry for the poor
thing. Time to put it out of its misery, I thought. I followed in my mom’s footsteps, stalking the
dinosaur, getting closer and closer. Even though I couldn’t blend in, I was walking so slowly that
the creature didn’t even flick an eye. When I thought the time was right, I burst forward, running
towards the beast. I held my third toe claw up while I was running so as to not make it useless
for hunting. I would also keep my killer toe claw up when I wasn’t moving so as not to keep
changing the position of my claw when I had to move from being still. I realized that mom did it
as well. I flattened my orange–yellow feathered crest against the back of my head and down my
neck to help me run in a streamlined position. Other than that, I would keep my feathered crest
up to appear bigger and more dangerous so as not to get eaten by large predators. I took a
running leap, landing on the back of the beast as it was turning to run. I started clawing and
biting just like my mom had shown me; with my winged arms laid over the creature’s back and
flapping them so as not to fall, while also stabbing with my killer toe claw while biting more than
clawing. The dinosaur tried to escape from me, but I held on, clawing and biting. Finally, the
beast ran out of energy and collapsed. I started to pick apart the meat so that I could eat. My
wings were down low, concealing the prey from other eyes. Mom walked up to me and we ate
together. When we were done eating, my mom told me that I did a good job hunting, I thanked
her, and we went back home.

Year Six;
One more year passed, and I practiced hunting with my mom. I got even better at it. Finally,
around the sixth year, it was time for me to move on out. I said bye to my mom and left the only
home I’ve ever known. On the first night of travel, I stared up at the night sky. I wondered for the
millionth time what my purpose was in life and why I was called Speedy. Amidst the colorful
streak in the sky, I saw a new tiny white dot, like a star, and I felt something deep inside me
telling me that something catastrophic was going to happen that was going to change reality as I
know it. I knew that I had to go find out what the thing was. So I stopped what I was doing at
that moment, changed directions, followed that feeling deep in me, and let it take me to where I
needed to go. It took me millions of years to get there. On the way there, I became nocturnal,
hunting at night and sleeping during the day. This felt more natural than hunting during the day.
The night was cool, but my feathers kept me very warm. I also had a cooler blue patch on my
snout to keep my face warm at night when hunting. I started to hunt eggs by stealing them from
the dinosaur’s nest, it was hard because the moms would come after me, but I hid every time
and managed to survive. I loved the taste of eggs so much, I still continue to eat them to this
very day. One of the eggs, though, I lost during dinnertime, I stole it from a nest with a large,
orange, blue-striped dinosaur with sharp teeth. I escaped from the mother dinosaur and ran to
another nest on a cliff, overlooking the sea. I jumped in and saw three juicy eggs waiting there
for me to eat. I was going to eat all the eggs, when I heard the sound of flapping wings and
knew that the mom was coming back. So I dropped the egg that I had stolen from the large
dinosaur in that nest with the three other eggs that I so wanted to eat and I fled as fast as my
long legs could carry me. The mother never saw me leave…

I also hunted small lizards! The meat was very cool because of the desert winds and because
the animal didn’t have any kind of protection against cold like I did. Despite this, I loved the cold
meat so much that I still continue to enjoy eating this kind of meat to this very day. After I had
eaten my fill, I would groom myself, making sure that my wings, body, and tail feathers were
sparkling clean, just in case I had to impress a mate. That NEVER happened! The moonlight
seemed to glow on my feathers as I ran across the desert to my destination. I seemed to
camouflage into the darkness of the desert better than during the day. My blue body feathers
seemed to blend in against the blue night sky filled with stars. My orange and yellow feathered
crest, wings, and tail helped me match the desert sand in low light conditions. Combine the two
colors together, and basically no one could see me in that dark barren landscape. On the way, I
saw many terrifying things that I wish I didn’t have to see. These things would haunt me forever.
Lava erupted from volcanoes all over the place, causing dinosaurs to fall into the hot liquid.
Wildfires were around every corner, burning the dinosaurs to ash. I heard their roars and it sent
chills up my spine. I decided to hide in a hole in the trunk of a tree not to be burning. I did this to
stay away from the congested air. I came out again after taking a short break and continued my
journey. I leaped from rock to rock, careful to not let any part of my body touch the lava lake all
around me. The temperature was boiling hot and I almost died of heat exhaustion and smoke
acidification, but I finally made it to a large body of water. I was afraid to drink any water
because I could sense that the water had turned deadly. I didn’t know how, but I decided to stay
away from the water and let the wind cool me down. I looked down, checking to see if I was
injured. I wasn’t and that made me happy. I wagged! Then, I looked up and saw a 100 foot tall
wave heading towards the land where I was standing. I ran away from the sand just as the Earth
started to quake. The ground began falling in behind me as I ran across the sand. Lava erupted
from the quaking ground as I ran, I dodged the lava, leaping from rock to rock, I almost fell
because of the ground-quake. But finally, after a lot of struggle to keep my footing, I ran into the
hot lava and fire forest. The temperature from cool to hot was so abrupt that I almost fainted. I
ran to a safe place where there was no lava or fire. There was a hole leading underground, so I
leaped down the hole and fell down it and landed in a nest in a small cramped space big
enough for me to move in a small circle. I stood up on my feet and stretched my neck down
under me to see if someone or something was under me. There was no one, so I curled up into
a ball and fell asleep. I woke up a few times. The first time I woke up, I heard and felt something
so unbelievably dangerous that I was frightened, I didn’t know whether I would survive or not. I
was in a life or death situation. I couldn’t sleep, I was so scared. The event seemed to last
forever, before finally stopping. At long last, I was safe. I fell asleep once more. The other time I
woke up, I heard something like SkyWater, but it smelled dangerous. I also heard a howling
wind that was stronger than the wind of a sandstorm. I didn’t know what it was, but I could
sense that it was dangerous. But it wasn’t underground so I could sleep easier than before with
the other natural disasters. I woke up again and again and heard more dangerous SkyWater, felt
more dangerous underground stuff, and smelled some dangerous stuff in the air on the ground
level. It all scared me, but I managed to fall asleep at long last. When I woke up for the final
time, everything was quiet, so I decided to go up to ground level to look. I leaped out of the hole
and when I looked around, destruction was everywhere. Dead, burnt dinosaurs and trees were
scattered everywhere. I couldn’t even fathom what happened to the ecosystem, but I needed to
escape because I could sense that something bigger and more dangerous was coming. And
with that, I looked up at the sky and saw something flying in it. It swooped down towards me and
I grabbed its wing in my mouth and the thing flew away with me riding it. We flew higher than the
clouds. My feathers blew in the very little wind that was there. The SkyAir was cool, but my
feathers kept me very warm while I was riding the flying creature. Then, the thing dove through
the clouds towards the land below. I dropped the wing of the creature and landed on the ground
on my feet. I looked around. Everywhere I looked, there was water as far as the eye could see. I
had NEVER seen that much water in my entire life. The blue of the water dazzled my very eyes.
I shook my head and squawked in disbelief! There was sand under my feet. The sand reminded
me of my home. I started to tear up, I missed my home. I hope my mom is OK without me, I
thought. Even though I didn’t know it at the time, a few million years later it would be called the
Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. I was standing on what will be called the Chicxulub crater. There
were flying bird things in the sky, but it was soon to be known that they were not birds. Behind
me, there was a lush green forest and there were large Long-neck dinosaurs chewing on the
leaves at the tops of trees. I wasn’t used to so much green in my life! I shook my head and
squawked in disbelief! Everything was calm and serene, almost like the calm before the storm.
Suddenly, this rock fell through the sky with a trail of fire behind it. It was huge. It was practically
the size of a large sand dune, or even larger. It got even closer. The fire rock was so bright that
it practically blinded me. I shook my head trying to clear my eyesight, but I had too many spots
behind my eyelids. After a few seconds, though, my eyesight finally cleared, just in time, for the
rest is history;

Then, the big rock landed in the Big Water, and suddenly all hell broke loose. As soon as the big
rock landed, it created a soundwave that washed over me and everything in the entire
landscape, and the noise of the big fire rock hitting was so loud, that I lost my hearing for a
whole minute before it returned. I shook my head anxiously and squawked, trying to get my
hearing back. Finally, it returned and I could hear clearly again. The big fire rock caused a
massive heat shock wave to expand from the ocean and head towards the land. I was in the
only spot not to be touched by the heat shock wave. At the same time, there was a massive
sphere of white light emanating from the point of impact. The whole area was now covered in
fires from the heat shock wave. There was another shockwave where the wind blew very strong.
I kept down low to the ground, behind a large rock, which had fallen from the sky during the
impact, so as to not get blown or ripped away in the wind. Other big rocks fell around me,
crushing other dinosaurs underneath them. I was the only dinosaur not to be crushed by the big
rocks. The Earth quaked. Every dinosaur ran. It was every dinosaur for themself! I stood there
like I was paralyzed. I felt like I was in anaphylactic shock. But then, there was a wave that was
300 feet tall. It headed toward the land where I was standing. That jolted me back to my senses.
I turned and ran as fast as I could. All around me, the ground seemed to fall away like
quicksand. The dinosaurs behind me seemed to fall into the Earth. They were roaring, terrified. I
knew that the sound of those roars would haunt me for life. The Earth seemed to fall in behind
me as I ran. It was starting to catch up to me, right behind my toes. First, an earthquake and the
ground falling in. I thought. Now, a Giant Wave. Why is this happening again today? But then
the Enormous Wave started to have the same energy and force as the earthquake. I ran faster
and faster. My yellow bird-like feet seemed to become a blur. All around me, rocks fell causing
temperatures to rise all over the place. I started to feel very hot, hotter than I was used to. I
dodged the rocks as they fell, leaping over and diving under them as they crashed, causing fires
to explode all over. My speed and agility were unparalleled with any other creature that will ever
run on the planet Earth in the past, present, and future. I leaned my body into the wind. The
streamlined position seemed to make me go even faster than I already was. I ran into the forest,
hoping to seek shelter in there. But, when I got there, I saw wildfires all over the place. I turned
to go the other direction, but the Big Wave was speeding up behind me. I was trapped between
the wildfires and the Big Wave. What was I supposed to do? Then, I turned and saw a tiny hole
in the trunk of the tree. I could go in there, I thought. So, I ran in just as water and fire collided,
spraying steam into my face. I had made it, but I wasn’t sure if I was safe. So, I turned around
and I saw a passageway behind me leading underground. I walked down the passageway until I
entered a large room with a nest in the middle. And I thought, hmm, is there someone sleeping?
I walked slowly and carefully up to the nest so as not to disturb whatever was in the nest, and
when I looked in, there was no one. So I jumped in, curled up, and fell asleep. I woke up a few
times. The first time I woke up, I thought I heard something like SkyWater. But, it smelled
dangerous. I woke up another time and I heard a howling wind that sounded like a sandstorm.
The sound of it was so relaxing that it made me fall asleep again. I thought, Why do I keep
hearing the same things over and over today? The next time I woke up, it was silent. I decided
to go up to the ground level to look. When I arrived, it was so bad. It was dark outside and there
was no sunlight. The sky was dark and ominous and with clouds so dark, they were almost
black. I shifted my gaze to the ground, and I was shocked by what I saw. A graveyard of
dinosaurs and white stuff everywhere. I didn’t know it was snow. I felt weird. I felt like something
got caught in my lungs. I was breathing something else. I went downstairs to go to sleep. When
I woke up the final time, I felt as good as new. I was breathing clearly again, like I did before. So
I went back up to ground level and it was different. The whole environment changed. It was
blooming. It was a new planet, ecosystem, and everything. I looked around in awe. I found my
purpose. I was Speedy. I outran the fire rock and the other more liquid one. And I found my
purpose. As happy as I could be, I ran out of the hiding place, squawking and flapping my wings
to the halfway point. In the new, reborn world, I was the last dinosaur that survived. I lived
happily, till the end of my days. The End!

About the Author;
My name is Cidney Poshi-Sinani, and I wrote this story because when I was young, I was
fascinated with time and I felt like I was older than my time. I had a vision of seeing dinosaurs,
but it felt like a memory. Then when I learned about reincarnation in high school, I knew that I
had a past life. I really hope you enjoyed this story because I worked on it and put really hard
work and a lot of effort into it. I really appreciate my past life, I was Speedy and I miss being
him. He will always be in my heart.
